NW Natural is secretly mixing hydrogen gas into our natural gas supply before notifying residents, consulting community members or getting regulatory approval. This is one of NW Naturals latest greenwashing tactics and unsurprisingly using hydrogen blending for residential use is not a climate solution. In fact, hydrogen blending poses multiple significant risks which include: higher explosion risk than methane, increased potential for gas leaks and greater air pollution when burned in home appliances. On top of these reasons, the process of extracting hydrogen requires an immense amount of energy which is created by burning fossil fuels.
Join us, our partners and community members to learn more about the dangers of hydrogen blending, potential protective legislation, and next steps. We need to make our voices heard in order to ensure our community’s safety and the right to informed decision-making about our energy infrastructure.
