Sarah Myhre, PhD (pictured above) will deliver this year’s Salem Peace Lecture. Her topic will be: “Living, Loving, and Loathing on a Hot and Finite Planet: the Path Towards Climate Leadership.”

Dr. Myhre is a scientist, writer, and public scholar activist. She received her Bachelors in Science from Western Washington University and her doctorate from the University of California at Davis. She is the founder and Executive Director of Rowan Institute, and non-profit focused on climate science leadership. Dr. Myhre is a Kavli Fellow of the National Academy of Science, and her work on climate change has led to her recognition as one of the 50 most influential women in Seattle.

Every year Salem’s Peace Lecture Committee presents a leading peace speaker to the Mid-Willamette community free of charge. At that time, a leading local peacemaker or peacemaking group is also honored with the Peacemaker of the Year Award. This year’s honoree will be Bill Hayden, whose long history of peace activism in Salem includes involvement with many local groups including the Peace Lecture Committee, the United Nations Association and the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
