Climate Protection Program 8/24

The Climate Protection Program (CPP) puts the health and safety of Oregon communities and local economies first. We are calling for the restoration of the CPP because it is essential to achieving Oregon’s climate goals, responsible for achieving half of Oregon’s targeted emissions reductions by 2035, and can provide ~$150 million in investments to communities hit first and worst with the impacts of climate change.

This powerful program can represent a meaningful win for EJ communities, especially Black, Indigenous, people of color, those with low-income or disabilities, seniors and children, and our rural and coastal communities who experience climate change first and worst. Right now, part of the Climate Protection Program that empowers and invests in EJ communities is under attack.

DEQ has launched a public comment period seeking input on its draft rules to restore the Climate Protection Program. It is vital that we drive a groundswell of public comment urging DEQ to maintain the integrity of the CPP and restore these essential climate and community protections by the end of this year.

Join us in organizing Oregonians to call on DEQ to ensure Oregon’s cornerstone CPP stays on track and delivers its stated goals.
