Oregon PSR has had the opportunity to support local youth in coming together to organize the Virtual Earth Day Rally  this Wednesday, April 22nd (rally from 4:00 until 5:30 PM). This rally and other associated events, organized by young Oregonians, are part of a week-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

It has been an honor to be a part of this organizing effort, especially given these challenging times. Originally envisioned as an in-person rally and strike, the youth organizers have balanced the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic, online school transition, and their personal responsibilities and needs with their online organizing efforts, and have worked hard to make these events happen. There are activities for everyone, not all of them online, and we hope that members of our community join these young leaders in any way that you are able.

Please join us this Wednesday, April 22nd from 4:00 until 5:30 PM for the largest digital rally for climate justice Portland has ever seen to learn about climate justice campaigns here in Portland, including YouthPass for All, the Oregon Green New Deal, the People's Bailout, and more. We’ll hear from youth speakers, musicians, poets, and leaders who are shaping our community by advocating for sensible, sustainable approaches to the public health crisis of climate change. We’ll also learn of ways to take action from home, like making art and singing with your neighbors, and how we can support our communities right now.

Please, register for the rally and invite your friends on Facebook

Then, on Thursday, April 23rd, join us for the Digital Chase Bank Takeover at every JP Morgan Chase Bank branch. We will be highlighting Chase’s leading role in supporting the fossil fuel industry on Chase’s social media pages, in other online reviews, and for every branch. Sign up now to get a toolkit with all you need to help hold Chase accountable for their climate change profiteering.

Chalk Art All Week: Chalk art is a temporary, artistic way to engage and inform your community about Earth Day events. Drawings and murals can be created and appreciated while respecting social distancing, and help in spreading the word about Earth Day actions to anyone who happens to walk by. You can also print out the Earth Day poster and post in your window.

Your participation is greatly appreciated, and we wish you a very Happy Earth Day!
