In response to the devastating mass shootings in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas, our community partners at March For Our Lives have called for a national day of protest this Saturday, June 11th. As of now, more than 400 local marches are being planned all across America, and March for Our Lives organizers are hosting one this Saturday in Bend, Oregon. Recognizing the public health crisis of gun violence in the US, Oregon PSR works to advance common-sense legislation to counter gun violence in order to protect our communities. We are co-sponsoring Saturday's event in Bend, and hope that you will join.
This March for Our Lives event is scheduled for this Saturday, June 11th, noon until 3 PM at Drake Park (777 NW Riverside Blvd) in Bend. Created by survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglass shooting in Parkland, FL, the national nonprofit March for Our Lives has been demonstrating since 2018, and has helped to drive real change in dozens of communities.
Now, we need our representatives in Congress to take the action that 90% of Americans support: universal background checks. The immediate goal of these marches on June 11th is to urge Sen. Chuck Schumer to call a vote on the universal background checks bill that was passed by the House OVER A YEAR AGO. If not now, when? We hope that you will join March for Our Lives this Saturday to learn more and lend your voice in support of sensible solutions to the epidemic of gun violence in our country.
The organizers of the March for Our Lives event in Bend this Saturday are also seeking qualified health professionals to serve as medics during the event. If you are interested and available to help, please contact event co-organizer Ryan Spinks for details.
