Rumble on the River Forum #3

Join us on December 8th at 6:30pm for the third Rumble on the River Community Forum: What’s Up With Zenith Energy &
The Critical Infrastructure Hub at the Multnomah Friends Meetinghouse.

The Rumble on the River Forums are designed to engage and inform the community on the threats to public health, safety, climate justice and our environment stemming from the Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub and Zenith Energy’s oil-by-rail operations. The CEI Hub is a six-mile stretch of aging tank farms located in NW Portland along the Willamette River. Within the Hub is Zenith, bringing dangerous oil trains through our communities. The CEI Hub holds more than 90% of all liquid fuel in Oregon. The entire Hub is in an earthquake liquefaction zone. The occurrence of the predicted earthquake would be catastrophic for our communities, the ecosystem and the entire lower Columbia River.

The City of Portland recently approved Zenith Energy’s Land Use Compatibility Statement after Zenith had lost
every legal challenge to date, based on Zenith’s promise to move to 100% renewable fuels in five years. Zenith has
repeatedly lied to the citizens of Portland about its operations and the City has no clear renewable fuels policy. There
are many concerns about whether/how much renewables reduce carbon emissions. We are in a climate emergency
and transshipping volatile fuels is not the answer. After years of respectful engagement from concerned community
members, this evasion of public comment and expert testimony on so-called renewable diesel is unacceptable. This decision
by the City’s Bureau of Development Services is a betrayal of public trust." Zenith still needs to be shut down.

We hope you will join us in learning about this important issue and take action to shut down Zenith!

Already feeling motivated to take action? We got you! You can write to DEQ Interim Director Leah Feldon, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, and Commissioner Dan Ryan.
