Join Oregon PSR online on Thursday, April 28th at 6:00 PM for an evening of celebration of the high school student winners of our 2022 Greenfield Peace Scholarship. The Greenfield Peace Scholarship is an opportunity to hear from young Oregonians on some of the most pressing issues of our time. We sponsor this annual scholarship to encourage Oregon’s youth to consider their leadership role in promoting a more healthy, just, and peaceful world. Named in honor of Del Greenfield, our longtime Executive Director, the scholarship is in its 14th consecutive year in 2022.
In past years, we have asked students to submit written and visual art, but for our 2022 Greenfield Peace Scholarship, we are seeking to see and hear the voices of change. With that in mind, we asked Oregon high school juniors and seniors to submit a video performance of their own original poem, song, or rap in response to the following prompt: “Half of the US discretionary budget goes to the military every year. How would you spend it instead?”
Congratulations to our 2022 Greenfield Peace Scholarship Winners:
- First Prize: Leslie Monjaras, Winston Churchill High School (Eugene, OR)
- Second Prize: Ellie Emery, Tigard High School (Tigard, OR)
- Third Prize: Sierra Moore, Crater Renaissance Academy (White City, OR)
- Honorable Mention: Mal Sotelo, Crater High School (Central Point, OR)
We will celebrate these young voices for peace and justice, showing a video of the winning performances as well as interviews and recordings from our winners and our distinguished panel of judges. We will also include video about the costs of war and disproportionate military spending.
Special thanks to our distinguished panel of judges: Quincy Davis, Lael Tate, and Tanaya Winder. Learn more about our 2022 Greenfield Peace Scholarship judges.
