Join us in creating a huge, positive presence at Multnomah County and Portland City Council hearings on Thursday, June 1st as our elected leaders vote to commit to powering our community with 100% clean, renewable energy by 2050 sector-wide.
This week, as Trump may pull the US from the Paris Climate Accord, these resolutions have the potential to be monumental—some of the most climate-friendly and equitable in the entire country—in sending a message to the world that we are serious about climate action. We need your help to secure and maintain the strongest, most protective language possible. All eyes are focused on our community!
As we celebrate strong progress made thus far, decision makers are considering amendments. The City resolution in its current form is in a good place, but it could be further strengthened. Oregon PSR, as part of a strong coalition, supports two important amendments to be considered before and during the upcoming hearings.
Add biomass to the list of energy sources that are explicitly excluded from being defined as "renewable." The disturbance and removal of carbon-sequestering forest biomass represents one of two leading sources of greenhouse gas emissions in Oregon. Biomass should not be considered a renewable energy source.
Acknowledge the importance of green infrastructure to improve energy conservation and reduce energy demands while providing direct benefits to human health.
Please join us on Thursday to show support for the resolution and call on the Portland City Council to champion our proposed amendments.
